SECRET World Wildlife Rescue is looking for volunteer response drivers who would be willing to rescue injured animals.

The wildlife centre, based in East Huntspill, is working with volunteer organisation, Wildlife and Badger Care (WBC), to rescue animals across Somerset 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Of the 5,000 wildlife casualties cared for by Secret World, 60 per cent are brought in to them by volunteer response drivers.

With the new season about to start, Secret World is hosting a special training day for people who would like to become response drivers for either organisation.

Pauline Kidner, founder of Secret World Wildlife Rescue, said: "We are looking for people who are prepared to collect contained animals from either vets or members of the public and to bring those animals in to us.

“The day will also give training for those wishing to learn how to do small animal rescue and how orphans are reared.

"We are totally reliant on volunteers helping us in all areas of the charity from reception, maintenance or animal care but this day is specific to Response Driver training.”

The training event is being held at Secret World Wildlife Centre in the Bluebell Barn on March 3 from 10am to 12.30pm.

Participants who want to stay for the orphan rearing session between 1.30pm and 3.30pm are asked to bring a packed lunch.
