FIVE people have been taken to hospital following a crash on the A39 between Cannington and Bridgwater

Firefighters from Nether Stowey rushed to the scene at 10.28pm yesterday night (February 17) to rescue people trapped in ther vehicles.

One of the vehicles had left the highway and was in a field. 

A further fire engine from Bridgwater and a Rescue Tender from Taunton were immediately sent on. 

When they arrived, crews confirmed that two people were still inside one vehicle and two people were inside the second vehicle which was on its side in the field. 

The officer in charge requested a futher fire appliance to attend and so this was sent on from Bridgwater.

Four people were rescued from the two vehicles by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment, small tools and stabilising equipment. 

In total five casualties were conveyed to hospital by land ambulances and air ambulance.
