BREAN Stages rally is set to return to Brean Leisure Park this January with 100 rally cars ready to race.

With the event hosting the opening rounds of three major regional championships competition for top honours is bound to be keenly contested over the two days of rallying in the park.

The rally, which takes place on January 27 and 28, 2018 has received entries from across the UK and is one of the West's largest and most popular motor sports events.

The rally actually gets under way for the competitors on January 26, 2018 when the pre-rally scrutineering comes to Weston College Skills Campus Motorsport Technology Centre on the Locking Road.

Rod McKenna, rally manager, has been organising the event since its inception in 1996 and said this year's rally preparations are going well.

"My wife Georgina and I are avid motor sport enthusiasts and have been organising the rally at Brean since it’s inception in 1996," Rod said.

"But rally organisation is a team effort and members from other neighbouring motor clubs assist us in a variety of ways each year."

The motor enthusiast said he starts organising the rally in June each year and regularly meets with his team to make sure everything is in place on race day.

The rally cars will arrive at the Weston College from 1pm on Friday afternoon until approximately 7pm for a pre rally inspection by the events scrutineers.

This facility will be open to the public who will get the opportunity to view the rally cars and meet the drivers.

Six special stages will be completed throughout Saturday with a further six stages on Sunday and an added Trophy Rally incorporating those competitors who were unfortunate to retire from the rally on the Saturday stages and who manage to put things back together for the Sunday morning re-start.

The rally is held entirely within the grounds of Brean Leisure Park and is organised and promoted by locally based Club Rallysport West.

Spectators are welcome into the park over both days and indoor and outdoor catering facilities will be available.

Organisers have ensured that spectators are well looked after with three viewing areas, one of which has a covered grandstand giving excellent viewing across the inner field stages.

Rod said preparations for this year's event are on schedule and said anticipation is mounting for race day.

"The intensity mounts from the beginning of December when entries open but it reaches its climax on the rally weekend when it all comes together.

"The teams enthusiasm for the event remains the same each year, which on occasions can test the organisation, as running an event such as this in mid winter can be extremely challenging from a weather aspect.

"We are looking forward to a sunny, if somewhat cold winter weekend of motorsport."

Tickets for both days cost £10 and car parking costs £5.
