CROWDS of people wrapped up warm and braved the cold weather to watch Burnham-on-Sea's Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday night.
Residents cheered on Victoria Street on November 25 as the Christmas lights were switched on by the BBC Points West presenter David Garmston alongside Burnham's MP James Heappey, Deputy Mayor Cllr Peter Clayton, Town Crier Alistair Murray, Carnival Queen Melissa Fear and BoS Factor talent competition winner Dennis Salmon.
Before the switch-on, visitors enjoyed a day of entertainment including free donkey rides, festive stalls and performances a number of local bands including Burnham and Highbridge Town band, the Siobhan Johnson singers and Britain's Got Talent semi finalist, Gracie-Wickens Sweet.
A spokesman for Burnham Chamber of Trade, who organised the event, said the switch-on was a 'huge success'.
"We thank everyone who helped to make the 2017 lights switch-on such a success.
"We were delighted that such a great number of spectators supported the event, getting Burnham's Christmas celebrations off to a great start.
"We encourage our local shoppers to support our town centre shops in the lead up to Christmas."
