PLANS for 160 new homes on farmland on the outskirts of Taunton have been unveiled.

Gladman Developments is asking local people their views on the proposed scheme north of Cheddon Road in the Pyrland area.

The firm has sent out leaflet outlining its proposals to more than 500 homes and businesses in the town as part of its public consultation.

An outline planning application will be submitted to Taunton Deane Borough Council "in due course", according to the leaflet.

A quarter of the homes wouild be affordable housing, while there would also be a publicly accessible greenspace and play area, a single priority junction off Cheddon Road and drainage solution.

The leaflet says: "We believe that a development should provide an opportunity to improve the range and quality of services that are available in Taunton.

"We would be very interested to hear your views on any additional services or improvements that would be of value to your community."
