Sparklers have been banned at a fireworks event in Somerset.

Organisers of Ilminster’s fireworks and bonfire night say they will “not be permitted”.

But glow sticks will be available for children instead.

Paul Webber, who is organising the event alongside Darren Paull, said: “Unfortunately sparklers are not permitted at this event but glow sticks for the children will be on sale.”

Sparklers will not be allowed as they are not covered in the event's insurance.

The display will take place on Sunday, November 5 at the Archie Gooch Pavilion – but time is running out to by early bird tickets.

Mr Webber added: “The pavilion bar will be serving the usual alcoholic and soft drinks.

“Hot dogs will be available, the meat has been supplied by Bonners of Ilminster.

“Guy Fawkes competition is open to everyone. Entries to be dropped off by 4.30pm on the night.

“Advanced tickets are on sale in the local shops of Harrimans, Bonners, Harper Dolman and West, Cottage Flowers, Shrubbery and the Spar petrol station.”

Advanced tickets are on sale until October 22. Adults tickets are available for £5.50, children under 16 cost £2 and children under three are allowed free entry.

On the gate prices are £7 for Adults, £3 for children under the age of 16, and children under three can still go free.

Gates open at 4pm and the Guy competition judging will be at 4.45pm. Bonfire will be lit at 5pm.

Firework display from our regular Stellar Fireworks at 6pm.

Mr Webber added: “Marshalled car parking for paid spectators will be available in Summervale surgery car park. We ask people to come join in the community atmosphere and not watch from outside Brittens Field otherwise without support this great event may not happen next year.”
