BRIDGWATER could be set to gain 248 new homes, a new primary school and a community hub, if new plans are approved.

Developer Bloor Homes has submitted an application to Sedgemoor District Council which applies for full permission to go ahead with 248 homes on land off Wilstock Farm which will include a mix two, three and four bedroom properties.

Following pressure from North Petherton Town Council, outline permission also been submitted for a new primary school, the design of which has been informally agreed with Somerset County Council.

A community hub has already been granted planning permission, and this has been incorporated into the wider application.

The application also seeks permission to build a new multi-use games area on the new estate.

The site lies on the southern fringe of Bridgwater, approximately a mile from the town centre east of Rhode Lane, and comprises 13.78 hectares of arable land in total.

The application includes a new bus route which the developers say will connect the new scheme with the wider Wilstock development and Bridgwater area.

The community hub has been designed as a single storey building with a vaulted ceiling in the main hall to allow for badminton and other activities.

The hub will also include a meeting room, office, kitchen, store and equipment store as well as toilets. The play area will be situated outside as part of the community hub along a car park.

The housing plans include 44 two-bedroom homes, 102 three-bedroom houses and another 102 four-bedroom houses. Of theses 195 will be two-storey dwelling while 52 will be 2.5 storey tall buildings.

Outline planning permission was given for a total of 330 homes in June 2012 over two sites. The first phase of this, which will 71 homes built on land to the East of Wilstock Farm is currently under construction.
