ENTRIES are now open for the Ilminster Children's Carnival.

The event, which takes place a week before the main procession, kicks off on Saturday, September 30.

Organisers are hoping to see lots of entries this year, with around 20 taking part over the last few years.

Bradley Amor, Ilminster Carnival Committee, said: "We are hoping for more entries again this year to take part. With around 20 entries taking part in the last couple of years it would be great for as many people to take part in the event as possible, from spectators to entries. Anyone under the age of 18 is able to take part and most entrants bring their entry to our main carnival as well."

Judging is set to start at 1pm, with the procession due to leave the Ile Youth Club at around 1.45pm. The parade will go from the youth club into East Street, Silver Street, Strawberry Bank, North Street, East Street and finish back at the youth club, where the results will be announced. There will be prizes awarded for nine classes, as well as the Chard and Ilminster News cups for overall best and for originality, the Tony Goverd Cup awarded for the spirit of carnival, and the Barbara Lee Cup awarded to the best overall individual costume.

The winner of each class collects a prize of up to £14, with prizes for second, third and fourth.

Anyone wishing to entre can cut out the entry form and return it to Ilminster Home Hardware by Thursday, September 28, or complete the entry form on the website.
