HUNDREDS of guests queued up to complain about the state of their rooms and the facilities when they arrived for a Bank Holiday getaway at Pontin's Brean Sands Holiday Park.

There were claims of poo on the walls, mold, something dripping down the cupboards, rubbish around the grounds and low levels of cleanliness.

Witnesses say queue of around 200 angry guests tackled management in reception.

Some were so upset they left, despite being unable to get their money back.

We've contacted Pontins, but they have so far failed to make a statement.

Somerset County Gazette:

Peter King, his partner and three children were so disgusted he decided to take photos of the evidence.

He said last night (Friday): "It's really is hell on earth.

"It's so bad that all I wanted was a refund to go home to Devon.

"Our room is absolutely disgusting.

"There's mold on the walls. The shelf is falling off. There's chewing gum on the wall. There's rubbish all over the place.

Somerset County Gazette:

"A toilet was blocked. The sewga smalls disgusting.

"The cleaners came and mopped up, then threw the sluice bucket contents out of the door onto the grass where kids were playing.

"The food we got, well I wouldn't give it to the dog. In the restaurant there were chips all over the floor.

"Staff were just chatting to each other. I pointed it out and one of them just looked at me and walked off. He got a cloth and half heartedly wiped over the tables without using disinfectant.

"There's litter everywhere outside the apartment."

Mr King said a number of guests were so distraught they just packed up after being told they would have to put in a complaint and ask for a refund, which would take 56 days, even if they are successful.

"One man was so furious he said he felt like strrangling someone," added Mr King.

"This place should be closed down."

Somerset County Gazette:

Mr King said: "Even after complaining, they sent the cleaners around, kind of mopped the floor and that was it.

"I complained again, they came back and they said they couldn't do anymore as they have to clean in twos and couldn't do anymore as they didn't have enough staff."

Somerset County Gazette:

Another guest, Liz Mountain, confirmed there were "around 200 people queuing to complain".

She said: "The rooms are absolutely filthy. People are saying they want their money back and I saw at least six famlies just go home because it's so dreadful.

"Staff are telling people it isn't their policy to give money back and guests have to complete paperwork.

"We have a room for six people and there are only three beds despite our booking.

"I've never ever been so incensed.

"We're all just getting fobbed off."

Somerset County Gazette:

A woman at Pontins head office told us she had not been made aware of any problems and added that the company "doesn't have a press office as such" and told us to contact Brean Sands.

Nobody was picking up the phone, so we e-mailed them asking for a comment but have as yet not had a reply.
