THERE will be plenty of activities on offer at a fun day to keep visitors of all ages entertained in Sydenham next weekend.

The fun-filled community event boasts free face painting, a bouncy castle, den building, dance team displays, football skills and basketball challenges, dog show, home-baking, a tuck shop, ice cream and a raffle.

Held on Saturday, August 26 at Coronation Park, there will also be a talent show showcasing the variety of skills from the neighbourhood, and the winner will be crowned on the day.

To make sure that the park is looking at its very best, residents are invited to help with a litter pick at 10am on the day, with the main event from 12pm until 4pm.

The idea for the fun day came from the newly formed Sydenham Improvement Group as a great way to bring residents together over the summer holidays whilst showing off the skills people have.

The community group is part of the Local People project in Bridgwater, supported by Sustrans, and funded by People’s Health Trust, using money raised by HealthFull, through The Health Lottery, as well as Sedgemoor District Council.

The event is a great opportunity for residents to find out about the project and get involved whilst enjoying the many activities on offer thanks to the help of residents, local groups and organisations including Sydenham Improvement Group, St Francis Church, Bridgwater Belles, Rollercoaster, Knightstone, Homes in Sedgemoor, the Together Team and donations from local businesses.

Alan Muir, project co-ordinator for Sustrans in Sydenham, said: “The excitement is building for the Fun in the Park event which started with a simple conversation in a community meeting, and grew to many different people coming together to get it ready for the big day.”

David Jones, director of grant programmes at People’s Health Trust, said: “It is great to see so many local people getting involved in planning this exciting community event in Sydenham.”

“Through the Local People project in Bridgwater, residents are becoming more connected to their neighbourhood and feel more empowered to address local issues.”

Kristy Blackwell, Together Team Coordinator said: “With lots of free activities for families to enjoy, Fun in the Park will be a fantastic day where you can find out how you can make a difference in your community whilst having some fun.”
