A QUIZ and a raffle at Victoria Bowling Club, in Bridgwater, raised £1,007 for Taunton-based charity Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE).
There was also a £500 match funding donation from the local branch of Lloyds to the County Gazette-back SURE, which equips the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Musgrove Park Hospital.
Skilgate Line Dancers raised £200, while there was £185.60 from the Beacon Centre, with £166.80 of that in 5p coins.
Other 5p collections included £8 from Richard and Carol Young and family; £33 from the Bunch of Grapes pub in Bridgwater; £15 from Phyllis Winter and Jenny Wakefield, of Taunton; £18.65 from Mr and Mrs Jones, of Highrbdige; and £6.75 from Murial House, of Creech Heathfield, who gave a further £2.20.
A total of £71.50 came from the collection pot at Tesco Express, in Prioswood, Taunton.
The weekly total of £2,047.70 means £703,860.99 has been raised since SURE linked up with the Gazette.
