AN elderly motorist has avoided a driving ban - because she's a churchwarden.
Anna Rees, 76, of Pitt Court, Curry Rivel, was clocked doing 52mph in a 40mph zone on the A38 Bridgwater Road, in Cross, in October last year.
She was fined £40 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and £30 costs.
She also received three penalty points.
But she was told she would not face disqualification for going over the totting up level due to mitigating circumstances, namely that she needs to drive to help her sister-in-law and to carry out her duties as a churchwarden.
Rees had pleaded guilty to the offence when she appeared at Taunton Magistrates' Court yesterday (Monday).
