A BRIDGWATER woman has been banned from driving for 16 months and fined more than £200 after admitting drink driving.

Christie Ellen Buttle, 26, of Elmgrove Close, appeared before Taunton Magistrates' Court today (July 24) accused of driving with excessive alcohol in her blood after crashing her car on Bower Lane at 3.46am on June 2.

Buttle pleaded guilty to the offence, saying that her main concern was with the welfare of her passenger who was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with suspected head and neck injuries.

They were both trapped in the car and were freed by fire crews.

She said that she had not spoken to the male passenger who was injured during the crash as she felt saying "sorry" would not be enough.

Miss Buttle was fined a total of £255 for her offence and has been disqualified from driving for 16 months.

She was offered the chance to participate in a driving course which would see her disqualification reduced by four months if she completes it by May 25 2018.
