A TOTAL of 38 children are set to start at Northgate Primary School this year with only a few places left for the September opening.

The new school, which was built on the site of the former Blake Hospital, will be part of a Bridgwater hub for the Clevedon Learning Trust.

Heather Good, headteacher of Westover Green School, will take on the executive headteacher role and will also be overseeing Northgate Primary.

Mrs Good said: "We are so excited and plan to be outstanding right from the outset.

"This is more good news for Bridgwater children, parents and the entire community."

"The Clevedon Learning Trust is the sponsor of this new free school and is also looking forward to having Westover Green and Puriton Primary school's joining in the next couple of months as well as Chilton Trinity later in the year.

The Department of Education also this week confirmed their funding agreement to guarantee the school's opening in September and said the school has already passed its pre-opening Ofsted inspection.

The school has confirmed that there are only a few places left in the reception class and said there will also be a Year 1 and 2 class opening.

A 26 place nursery for children age 30 months to 4 years will also be available at the school from January 2018.

John Wells, executive principal of the Clevedon Learning Trust, said: "We are delighted at the progress and look forward to having another exceptional school in Bridgwater."
