UNRULY children running amok in a village park and making life a misery for neighbours could be in for a shock - a letter from the police to their parents.

People in Mill House Road, Norton Fitzwarren, have been complaining for a couple of months about anti-social behaviour.

PCSO Emma Carter said: "Reports of anti-social behaviour have been made regarding youths gathering in the park during the evening and causing harassment, alarm and distress to local residents.

"There have been reports children are swearing, kicking footballs at house walls and vehicles, ringing doorbells, shouting abuse, causing damage and generally causing a nuisance in the local area."

She is reminding parents and children there is a youth shelter in the recreation ground next to the village hall, where a basketball hoop is being reinstated soon, and over-12s multi-use play equipment.

PCSO Carter added: "We are advising informants to record a diary of logs of when problems are occurring.

"We advise video recording for evidence purposes. We are looking to deal with this at lowest intervention involving formal letters."

When complaints first surfaced in April, PCSO Carter advised people to report incidents by calling Taunton Police on 101 so a duty beat team member could attend, while night-time patrols were stepped up.

At the time, officers spoke to four children in the company of their parents, passing on "words of advice".
