AMONG donations to a Taunton-based cancer charity last week was £1,000 from Rockwell Green Whist Drives held at the village hall.

It was the largest sum out of a total of £1,649.45 raised for the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE), which helps equip the Beacon Centre, at Musgrove Park Hospital.

Other donations included £2.95 in 5p coins from Pauline Burt; £52.56 from Magnet Trade, Taunton, from a bucket collection at their trade day; and £2 from G. Larcombe.

Collections pots totalled £188.42 at Tesco Express, East Reach, Taunton; £21.39 from Trull Stores; £111.32 at Tesco Express, Comeytrowe; and £42.51 from One Stop Shop, Galmington.

There was £65 from West Monkton Badminton Club, from its stall at West Monkton Spring Market, and also £35 in 5ps from the club.

Left at the Beacon Centre was £97.35, including £67.95 in 5ps from Blagdon Retirement Village; there was £31.35 in 5ps from Jan Biddiscombe and friends; and from the Beacon Centre £69.60 of which £66.40 was in 5ps.

The total raised since SURE linked up with the Gazette now stands at £692,477.10.
