THE POPULAR Burnham-on-Sea Food and Drink Festival will be returning for its tenth year.

Organisers of the free day-long festival say it is set to be the biggest one yet with more than 130 producers scheduled to set up shop and sell their produce at five indoor venues.

Sarah Milner-Simonds, co-organiser of the festival said: “This is our tenth festival in Burnham-on-Sea and we are back once again with the ill behaviour, animals in the street, tractors on the pavement, smoke in the air and the most wonderful local produce for the fire in your bellies.

“It makes us insanely proud to know that so many of you have a taste for the brilliant food and drink made and grown around our lovely town and a healthy appetite for more.

“We hear often from stall-holders how much they enjoy the vibe here - interested shoppers, hungry punters, a great social and very supportive group of traders.”

There will be a range of activities at the event on May 27 including live cooking demonstrations on the KDS Fresh Ideas stage from Somerset chef’s James Simpson, Matt Brooks and Steve Howell, an outdoor food market with a variety of regional produce and live entertainment from the Ritzy Glitzy Line Dancers and Reg and Dave.

Also for the first year ever the Hawksmoor Cookery School will be holding cookery workshops at Somerset Skills and Learning on Princess Street where chefs will be teaching visitors how to cook a range of summer dishes.

The Great Burnham Bake Off will also be back for its tenth year, past winners of the competition will be baking again to be in with the chance of being crowned the champion of champions.

Bev Milner Simonds, co-organiser of the festival said: “What’s new this time is our Hawksmoor Cookery School, where Chrissie Godfrey will guide adults and youngsters through creating some amazing fresh flavours. “On the KDS Fresh Ideas stage you can learn about charcuterie, cooking with kids and techniques from some award-winning chefs from our area.

“With your help we’ll keep local food, drink and fun at the centre of the festival.

“It is your requests and wish lists that shape the festival – tell us what you’d like to happen in the future. Power to the people”
