SEDGEMOOR District Council is urging residents to report noise complaints.

Last year, the council issued four Noise Abatement Notices and in the last three years  the council has confiscated 150 pieces of sound equipment.

A spokesman for Sedgemoor District Council said: "Excessive noise seriously harms human health and interferes with people’s daily activities at school, work, home and during leisure time.

"It can disturb sleep, cause cardiovascular and psychophysiological effects, reduce performance and be extremely irritating.

"Many organisations are frequently involved in resolving noise disputes - so this represents a huge amount of time and money.

"Preventing noise problems is much cheaper than curing them – and better for everyone.

"It is estimated that across the country, the cost of investigating noise complaints by councils is between £130 - £7,000 per complaint."

In the last year, the council, the Environmental Protection Team at Sedgemoor District Council received 240 complaints about noise – everything from dog barking, noisy music and parties, to DIY, intruder and vehicle alarms.
