A DECISION on proposals to redevelop the Coal Orchard area of Taunton has been put back a month.

Landowner Taunton Deane Borough Council wants to build new shops, 36 homes, work space, restaurants and cafes on the riverside site.

The authority's planning committee was due to vote on Wednesday (May 24) on the application, which also involves demolishing the now closed St James Pool.

But the application will now go to the planning committee at its meeting on Wednesday, June 21.

ArtsTaunton has voiced strong opposition to the plans, claiming they will "seriously restrict the development of The Brewhouse Theatre and the overall development of Coal Orchard as Taunton's cultural quarter".
