CROWDS of dogs lovers headed to Burnham-on-Sea beach to enjoy a jam packed day of dog themed activities at Burnham Sea Dogs Festival.

The event, now in its second year was held on Burnham beach just south of the Esplanade.

Dog owners and lovers were treated to a dog show, live demonstrations from dog agility trainers and stalls full of dog themed accessories.

The event aimed to promote responsible dog owning and encouraged dog owners to go down to Burnham beach for their health and wellbeing.

Bev Milner Simonds, organiser of Sea Dogs Festival, said: “The Sea Dogs Festival is born out of a desire to encourage responsible dog ownership and welcome more dog walkers to Burnham-on-Sea during National Pet Month.

“We have seven miles of sandy beach, most of which is accessible all year round to dog walkers.

“The fun dog show had lots of full classes and dogs of all shapes and sizes competed to be the ‘most forgivable puppy’, ‘most loveable veteran’ and to have the ‘waggliest tail’.

“We had more than 1000 owners and their dogs come along and enjoy a fun day out on the beach with a selection of dog related stalls.

“We are really pleased with how the day went and to be able to have made donations to The Cinnamon Trust, Heaven’s Gate NAWT and Happy Landings: BARK Buy a Brick campaigns.”
