WEST SOMERSET had two representatives at the annual Junior Inter-Regional Rowing Championships held in Nottingham.

Charlotte Enright and Becky Ansell are members of Wimbleball Rowing Club and were part of the Junior 16 Women's eight along with representatives from Castle Dore Rowing Club in Cornwall, Exeter Rowing Club and Dartmouth Rowing Club.

Under the guidance of Robin Mills, coach at Castle Dore, the girls had undergone a rigorous training schedule but despite this the crew that represented the Western Region on Saturday had only rowed together once and that was the practice session on the Friday before the regatta.

However, the Western crew put all these disadvantages aside and in their morning heat on Saturday, came in second.

This earned them a place in the final, the first time this had been achieved by a women’s eight from the West.

In a thrilling race the girls missed out on a medal position by just two-tenths of a second, but Charlotte and Becky took great heart from their performance.
