A BURNHAM-on-Sea community drop in group for the over 60's is set to lose its funding in June.

'Something for the over 60's' is run by Hands of Change, a Burnham-on-Sea community group and is currently funded by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.

But the funding is set to stop at the end of June and organiser of the group Kay Barrett said it will be up to the community group to keep the club a-float.

Kay Barrett from Hands of Change, who runs the group, said: "The town council's funding of the club will not run out until the end of June.

"It will give us some time to make arrangements for the future.

"Hands of Change are determined to keep the group a-float.

"We will be running the group on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month from 2pm to 4pm until the end of June and then its up to Hands of Change to move forward with the group.

"It means so much to everyone, the clients and volunteers don't want it to stop."

The group offers support and activities to people over the age of 60 to encourage them to have more social connections.

It was previously funded for a year by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.

Mrs Barrett, added: "It would be great to get more people along so that we could self fund the group.

" I'm sure we will do it volunteers have offered to pay subs each week  to keep the group up and running."

The group runs on the second and fourth Monday of every month from 2pm to 4pm at The Royal British Legion in Burnham and is free to attend.
