RESIDENTS in Burnham-on-Sea have seen some terrific artwork dotted around the town as part of a new 'Free Art Friday' initiative.

'Free Art Friday' is an initiative replicated all around the world where artists donate their work free of charge and leave them outside for members of the public to take home and enjoy.

The first pieces of artwork appeared at different spots in Burnham on April 14 to the delight of residents.

Becky Lyons from Burnham Spray Jam and co organiser of Free Art Friday said: "Free Art Friday is a phenomenon that happens all over the world.

"After the success of Spray Jam the artist Kallus Spore and myself thought that it would be a great idea.

"Hel Brodie from Hands of Change collected the artwork donated by Ian Boyd Walker , Kallus Spore, Filthy Rich and many others and put them around town.

"Free art Friday is on an ad hoc basis.

"Any artists who are interested in joining in should contact Kallus Spore via Facebook."

The worldwide phenomena has been replicated in towns and cities across the UK including Exeter, Portsmouth, Blackpool and Bristol.

Volunteers from Hands of Change, a Burnham based community group collected the artwork from artists in the town and dropped them off at different locations putting clues to their whereabouts on their Facebook page.

Hel Brodie from Hands of Change, said: "Free art Friday is a movement where creators gift free art to the public.

"It was great to see some spray jam artists joining in.

"It was also really exciting to see our Hands of Change volunteers being inspired to create pieces to join in.

"On my last run of the day it was great to see a lady walking round Marine Cove on the phone obviously getting directions from a friend who had seen one of our online clues, a photo of the art in situ to give a clue where to find it but she was too late.

"Later on she caught me just as I had put the last piece out in St Andrews graveyard and was very very happy.

"I also had a lovely chat with a family that were visiting Burnham. They had shown a lot of interest in a piece by BlueC that was on a bench by the pier. When I pointed out that they could take it home for free they were blown away.

"One of the children was going to take it to school for show and tell."
