A MAN has been rushed to hospital in a 'serious condition' after a crash on the A39 in Puriton.
Police were called at 3.37am today (April 22) to reports of a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Puriton Hill.
Police closed the road between the M5 J23 and Crancombe Lane earlier today for several hours while they carried out an investigation.
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police, said: "The crash was between a car and a pedestrian.
"A man has been taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol and he is in serious condition.
"Enquiries into the collision are ongoing.
"The road was closed for most of the morning but it reopened at 10.22am."
A spokesman from South Western Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 3.29am to reports of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian.
"The male casualty had a head injury.
"Two ambulances and one rapid response vehicle attended the incident.
"The casualty was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital for treatment."
The Buses of Somerset tweeted to inform motorists of the closure and said they were unable to get buses to Puriton as a result of the closure.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
