TALENT scouts from ITV’s The Voice will be searching for the next big thing in Taunton.

Scouts will be scooping out singers at The Royal Oak in Stoke St. Gregory, Taunton in May.

An open mic audition will be held at this popular venue as The Voice starts looking for singing talent to take part in the show in 2018.

The Voice UK is open to solos and duos, and all musical styles are welcome.

You need to be 16 years old on or before October 1.

One of the co-owners of the Taunton pub, is Nicola Berridge who is over the moon to be involved in such a prestigious television programme.

Nicola said: “I am absolutely thrilled we are hosting an open mic session for The Voice.

“Wouldn’t it be great if we got the eventual winner appearing at this event.

“What is great is this type of event is being held as this is encouraging people to come along to their local pubs.

“We are very much part of the community and are having support from Alec Hay who runs our acoustic nights and 200 Hurts which is providing the sound system for this event.

“Running this event will be hard work and a big challenge but it is something I look forward to doing.

“Since it was announced we are holding this audition for The Voice it has been crazy with people emailing me all the time.

“We need the people who want to take part to book early.

“The slots will be given out on a first come, first serve basis.

“I am aiming to give everyone a ten minute slot so they can set up their MP3 players.

“All the acts will be filmed and then the disc will be sent to organisers at The Voice who will make their selections.”

So for any budding stars in and around Taunton this could be your big chance at a big break.

The open mic night at The Royal Oak in Stoke St Gregory takes place on Tuesday, May 23 at 7pm.

Please email Nicola on berridn@aol.com to book a slot.
