COMMUNITY groups across Sedgemoor will benefit from nearly £19,000 of grant funding after awards were given out by Sedgemoor District Council. 

The council has supported a variety of projects across Sedgemoor in a bid to ensure better facilities are offered to residents in the district.

£2,500 was awarded to Wembdon Cricket Club to purchase and install a perimeter ball stop system.  The ball stop will protect traffic and all road users from cricket balls hit out of the ground; reduce time spent looking for lost balls, thus speeding up the game and stop balls from entering the Rhyne.

£2,500 was awarded to the Wassail Theatre Group towards their Reclaimed project, which will continue to explore the issues surrounding the flooding to the Somerset levels, accurately portraying the significant impact on the communities that live there.

£2,500 to Westonzoyland Engine Trust for the final phase of the project is to fit out and complete the new visitor and volunteer toilet facilities.

£2494.17 was granted to Greenways and Cycleroutes Ltd for completion of the Brean Down Way – a walking and cycling route from Brean to Weston-super-Mare.

£2,450 to Somerset Film and Video Ltd to support a creative wellbeing project for the general public and for those identified with mental health issues.

£2,400 to Cheddar Arts Fringe Festival to run a Willow sculpture workshop to create six soay sheep during the May bank holiday weekend.

This will form part of the arts trail which is run by CHAFF.

The workshop will take place in the Fragrance Garden in the lower part of Cheddar Gorge.

Middlezoy Cricket Club was awarded £1,396.56 to provide cricket and coaching equipment so young players can learn to play in a safe inclusive environment.

Mean Feet Dance Company was awarded £975 to develop a weekly wellbeing group (term-time only) in the Hamp Area of Bridgwater after a successful pilot trial.

£750 for Actiontrack to run a will run a week long Gamelan Residency with young people from in and around the Bridgwater area during the October 2017 half term.

Pawlett Sports and Playing Field Association 1997 was awarded £744 towards the 3G project.

Victoria Park Young Adults Group was awarded £250 towards new equipment and trips.
