MOST retirees look forward to putting their feet up, but one Taunton man decided to welcome the occasion by taking on a mammoth challenge for charity.
Neil Longstreet, 60, recently completed the 500 mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail in Spain, raising £5,803 for St. Margaret’s Hospice.
St. Margaret’s Hospice has been at the heart of Somerset’s community for 37 years, delivering compassionate care to patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness.
Neil spent six months training for the five week solo expedition and used it as an excuse to keep fit in retirement. He particularly wanted to fundraise for a hospice after losing a family member in another hospice in the North West.
Sharon Pavey, Taunton Deane community fundraiser, for the hospice, said: “On behalf of St. Margaret’s, we are so grateful to Neil for completing the trail and for raising so much.
“We are constantly in awe of our very special supporters who challenge themselves in all sorts of ways.”
