BRIDGWATER & Albion RFC has received a welcome boost with £800 donation to the youth team from Asda.

Asda community champion Jo Thexton came along to training on Sunday to present the cheque to chairman of the youth set-up Matt Ranson.

Alongside the senior club and a women's team, the rugby club has youth club's running from under 7's through to under 18's.

The money will go toward purchasing new after match polo shirts for the youngsters.

"Having the youngsters in kit like this really helps give it the feeling of being a proper club, and we are working more and more with the senior team so the whole club is integrated.

The youth team has also benefitted from discounted white shirts and ties from Hooks, and Mr Ranson wanted to thank all the clubs sponsors who help keep the club going.

"The seniors and youth squads have been a bit separate in the past but now we working closer to bring it all under one umbrella,"Mr Ranson said.

"Donations like this mean we can help keep the costs down for the mums and dads bringing their children along.

"We are all volunteers in the youth set-up and for £35 a season for the kids we provide matches and training, and money we raise go towards funding new equipment and providing food.

"What we really want is to keep investing in the youth programme so that we have talented youngsters progressing through the ranks and joining the senior team."

On Sunday, April 30 the club is expecting around 1,000 people to descend on the ground to watch a game between England and Wales Under 16's.
