A NUMBER of properties across Sedgemoor have been searched for drugs after residents voiced their concerns about drug dealing across the district.

Avon and Somerset Police carried out a search warrant at a property in Burnham-on-Sea on February 24 and officers seized a quantity of white tablets and white powder which are believed to be controlled drugs.

A 37 year-old man voluntarily attended the police station to assist with further enquiries following the warrant.

The drugs have gone for forensic testing and a police investigation is ongoing.

Inspector Andy Pritchard, neighbourhood manager for Sedgemoor, said: “Officers carried out these warrants direct result of information being provided by the community about suspected drug dealing.

“Residents have made it clear they don’t want it in their neighbourhood, we won’t tolerate it and we are taking proactive action across Sedgemoor to deal with it.

"Please keep talking to us, either directly or via Crimestoppers.”

Officers also carried out a drugs warrant in Cheddar earlier this month after they received information from residents about suspected drug dealing at a property in the village.

Two men in their early 20's were found to be in possession of cannabis.

One received a cannabis warning and a second is attending the police station voluntarily for questioning.
