A THEATRE group that has showcased the work of local writers and directors for 90 years has secured a £1,000 boost.
Taunton Thespians won the grant from Persimmon Homes South West towards new LED lighting in the auditorium of its venue in Wilfred Road, Taunton.
The group's Rene Kilner said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes for this generous donation.
“The Thespians are self-funding and are considered an integral feature of the Somerset visitor and leisure offering.
“This money will help us to provide emergency lighting and reduce both energy costs and frequent work at heights.
"The work has been quoted as £1,300 plus fitting, so this £1,000 will go a long way towards that.”
The donation is part of Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme, which supports community groups and good causes every month.
Nina Hester, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes South West, said: “I know some of our team have enjoyed Taunton Thespains' shows over the years, along with thousands of others.
“These lights will help take their productions to the next level."
