BRIDGWATER is set for 3,720 new homes by 2032, it has been revealed.
Sedgemoor District Council has published its Local Plan which will provide the blueprint for development in the area and features almost 7,000 homes for the Sedgemoor area.

The Local Plan includes large urban extensions to the west and east of Bridgwater, both suggested for about 1,200 new homes and supported by new schools, highway improvements and substantial areas of open space.

There is also some further growth to the south, including a new strategic employment site at junction 24 of the M5.

This includes 1,200 homes on land between east Bridgwater and the M5, 850 homes for the Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge area, and another 250 are expected to be built in Nether Stowey.

Smaller areas including Spaxton, East Huntspill, Westonzoyland, Brean and Berrow could be expected to have another 650 homes built between them, and an even smaller tier including the likes of Othery and Shapwick could have 280 homes built in rural areas.

A spokesman for Sedgemoor District Council said: “A document known as the draft Local Plan has been published and it will have an impact in some way on everyone who lives, works or visits the district.

“Residents are being encouraged to seize the opportunity to comment on proposals on how the district of Sedgemoor should grow and change over the next 15 years.

“Now is the time to speak up about what sort of place residents want Sedgemoor to be in the future.

"Planning affects so many aspects of our daily lives from where we live, how we travel, what careers we can choose and how we spend our leisure time, that is why taking an active part in its processes is so worthwhile.”
