FIRE crews spent the evening tackling a chimney fire near Porlock.

One engine from Porlock alongside with a 4X4 vehicle and one engine from Minehead were called to Hawkcombe to reports of a fire at a property around 6pm last night (February 1).

On arrival crews confirmed the fire was contained within the flue, and worked to remove the wood burner and register plate to get access to the fire.

They were fighting the fire from the hearth using chimney rods, smoke was also issuing from another fire place in the upstairs bathroom.

At 7.30pm crews have requested the attendance of a third engine from Minehead due to the complexity of the incident.

The fire broke through the flue liner and into the chimney breast, crews worked to formulate a plan with a 135m ladder, a fognail and Safety at Height equipment.
