ANTI-Social Behaviour in Bridgwater has moved out of the town centre - and into your homes.

Reports have sprung up of youths undertaking an extreme version of 'ginger knocking', going into people's homes before running off.

Victim Charlotte Dyer, 22, said her and her partner were sat watching a movie with their two-year-old son at their home in Polden Street when youths kicked in their front door.

"It was relatively early, around 6.20pm," Charlotte said. "We had just had dinner and were watching a film when the next thing I knew a loud bang shuddered through the house.

"Initially I thought we had maybe left the door ajar and the wind had slammed it shut, but I looked out the window and saw a group of 7 or 8 youths dressed in hoodies and trackies running up toward the end of the street."

When her partner went to inspect the door he found the door swinging open and the metal lock on the door frame had come off.

"I reported the incident to the police but they could not find the culprits and logged the incident," she said.

"I put out an appeal for information on Facebook, I have a two-year-son and he has been scared since. I just feel they cannot just get away with this," Charlotte said.

Charlotte said she had a number of people get in touch with her saying they had similar experiences.

"A lady up at Rhode Lane had a worse experience where youths didn't just break the door but went into their home," she said.

"One person had a shopping trolley rammed into their door, another man contacted me saying he had been sat in his car when youths came up and jumped on the bonnet and shouted abuse at him."

In reference to Charlotte Dyer's case, a police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of an incident at a property in Polden Street in Bridgwater.

"A number of teenagers kicked the door and ran away. No visible damage caused but police enquiries are continuing.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Bridgwater police quoting reference 5217010434."

Bridgwater resident Karen Smith said her family had suffered a similar fright, and wanted to warn residents to make sure their doors are locked in the Wills Road and Rhode Lane area.

"We just had a bunch of kids throw our front door open and seeing us sat on the sofa run off. We have informed the police," she said.
