DON'T adjust your screens - it's true!
Work was being carried out on Taunton's long-delayed £22 million Northern Inner Distributor Road - after dark last night (Thursday).
Maybe contractors are trying to defy the odds and complete the mile-long inner relief road this month.
That's the latest self-imposed deadline they gave when pressed by Somerset County Council late last year.
But with plenty of work still to be done, it seems unlikely traffic will be using the road between Staplegrove Road's junction with Chip Lane and Priory Avenue any time soon.
The carriageway, which will potentially open up the derelict Firepool site for a multi-million development, was originally due to be completed by spring 2015.
But after being plagued by delays, Carillion and the county are now in dispute over the final bill, with the private firm demanding millions more than County Hall is prepared to fork out.
A Carillion spokesman said this week: "We continue to work closely with the council to complete the NIDR project."
A council spokesman said earlier this month: "We remain in dispute with Carillion, but continue to push for completion of the NIDR as soon as possible in the new year."
