STUDENTS from Holyrood Academy and Axe Valley joined forces to take part in an inaugural event.

Almost 100 students from the two schools met at Holyrood for a “mathematics enrichment” day, with Ben Sparks, from the maths and science department at Bath University attending the school to lead the event.

The pupils were encouraged to think about the origin of numbers, and offered an insight into how to approach A Level maths problems, and were also offered information on what jobs, salaries and careers the qualifications could lead to.

Dave MacDonald, from Holyrood School, said all the students found the day helpful.

He said: “This maths enrichment programme presented students with the invaluable opportunity to work in teams with peers from another school and attempt to solve real-world mathematical problems together.

“This was a well-delivered event which I am confident will encourage many students to study Mathematics at A Level and beyond.”
