SHARON Ware is busy preparing for the mid-morning rush when we manage to have a quick catch-up at Rumwell Cafe.

The head chef of the popular eatery, no day is ever a dull day in the kitchen.

Sharon has been working at Rumwell for two and a half years, she first started out in the popular deli of the farm shop, before moving over to the cafe which this May will be celebrating two years of opening.

With breakfasts, lunches, dinners, a Sunday carvery and a great selection of cakes and pastries, Sharon's 6am-3pm shift is always a busy one.

The cafe's location on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington keeps the staff busy too.

"I absolutely love it here," says Sharon.

"I started out on the deli and when the cafe was opened, my manager asked me if I wanted to come over and I did.

"It's great because I get to really focus on making the food I enjoy the most which is pastries and cakes, it's my passion.

"We do quite a varied selection but our most popular is definitely the coffee and walnut."

Before turning her head to sweet treats, the 45-year-old worked in kitchens at schools.

She has also just taken on more responsibility in the cafe, making order forms and sorting out rotas.

Sharon added: "It's my first week on the job and there's a lot to learn but I think it's going well.

"There's 74 staff at Rumwell and that includes seven chefs, seven butchers and 23 front of house staff.

"We're all like one big family so it's a really great place to work.

"We can sit up to 120 people and we also have an outdoor eating area in the summer and a play area for the children.

"We've held a couple of parties here and occasionally we have events in the evenings such as charity quizzes, and we really like to do more of this kind of thing."

The cafe tries to use as much produce as possible from Rumwell's family farm just down the road or sourced from local producers.

So you can look forward to delicious free-range eggs in your breakfasts, home-mad jam in your cakes and free range, home reared pork and Aberdeen Angus beef.

Sharon said: "I think that's one thing that really does set us apart because as much as possible we try and use our own ingredients and people know that when they come here they will be eating good quality produce.

"Even the jam and chutneys we use in our cakes and salads are all made here.

"The jam was the first thing to be made here back in 1998 by Liz Brown who still makes the jam now.

"There's over 50 products and they're all made using fruit and vegetables from the shop.

"Our butchery makes a lot of products for us too and our bakery including fresh bread and scones which you can enjoy here in the cafe or pick up to take home with you.

"We all work really closely together and we have a great team, not just the chefs but everyone."
