THAT'S a cracking van, Gromit!

A van made famous by the Wallace and Gromit animation is set to fetch thousands of pounds when it goes under the hammer in an auction next year.

The Austin A35 Anti-Pesto van, used to promote the animated film Wallace and Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit is a star car in the Charterhouse auction of classic and vintage cars on Sunday, February 12.

Although the van was never used in the actual show, it was used to promote the show at various events and charity functions, and also appeared on the red carpet for the Leicester Square film premier.

Matthew Whitney, said he was thrilled Charterhouse were auctioning off the van, and hoped an eager fan or collector would snap it up.

He said: “I have always been a fan of the Wallace and Gromit series of short films.

"Whilst I own several of the DVD’s I never thought we would be instructed to sell this star car!”

Currently owned by a Stilton Cheese maker, mirroring the animation, the owner has decided the time is right to sell it and it is expected to be sold for between £15,000 and £20,000 at the auction.

In the animated film, the A35 Anti-Pesto van was used to transport Wallace’s Bunvac 2000 invention.

Made as a promotional vehicle, the little Austin underwent a professional restoration which took more than 1,000 man hours.

It was then distressed to give it a used and authentic look.

It went on to be displayed at The Wensleydale Cheese Museum, the Cotswold Motor Museum and for the past couple of years, at The National Motor Museum, Beaulieu where it featured in the On Screen Cars exhibition alongside Del Boy Trotters Reliant Robin van.

As part of the sale, the van comes complete with a large selection of carrots, other vegetables and cut outs of Wallace and Gromit.
