SEDGEMOOR District Council are keen to find out if there is interest in setting up a Sedgemoor Shedder’s Group in either Burnham-on-Sea or Highbridge.

A Men’s Shed is a larger version of any garden shed – a place where he feels at home and pursues practical interests.

In the scheme members will share the tools and resources they need to work on projects.

They are places of skill-sharing and informal learning, of individual pursuits and community projects and set up a network of relationships between the members.

John, an established ‘shedder’ from another group said:“Fixing, making and re-using materials has given me the motivation to improve my rented home.

"It improved my mental state and it gave me hope.”

A Shed’s activities usually involve making or mending in wood (e.g. carpentry, joinery, turning, carving, whittling, marquetry, furniture renovation) but may include metalworking (milling, sheet metal, welding, etc.) bike repair, gardening, electronics, tool renovation, boat renovation, model engineering (model railways, planes) and even building a car!

Full support is being offered to help set the group up with a series of launch meetings being organised in the New Year - but in order to get things started please contact Jacqui Strong Health and Wellbeing Officer to register your interest on 07584 909385, 01278 435328 or jacqueline.strong@sedgemoor.gov.uk.
