THE trial of six people charged in connection with the death of Ilton grandad Wilfred Isaacs Senior got underway this week.

Mr Isaacs, 50, died after being shot at Chubbard's Cross caravan site near Ilminster on Thursday, May 5 this year.

Six people have appeared at Bristol Crown Court over the incident on Thursday, May 5 at Chubbard's Cross caravan site near Ilminster, when Mr Isaacs was shot dead.

Three men, Charlie Broadway, 23, William Broadway, 18 and John Broadway, 37, have all been charged with murder and attempted murder.

Charlie and William have also been charged with possession of a firearm, namely a shotgun, with intent to endanger life.

Three others will also stand trial in connection to the incident.

Bonnie Wilson has been charged with assisting John Broadway following the incident, by driving him away from the location of the shooting.

Joseph Finney and Riley Joe Jones have both been charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Wilfred Isaacs Senior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Charlie Broadway has also been charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Mr Isaacs, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

All six deny the charges against them.

The jury was sworn in on the trial on Tuesday morning, and Judge Mr Sweeny said the trial may last up to seven weeks.

Prosecuting for the Crown will be William Mousley and Rachel Drake.

Defending Charlie and William Broadway will be Simon Cooper, Richard Smith and Tara Wolfe.

Paul Dunkeis and Derek Perry will defend John Broadway, while Bonnie Wilson will be defended by Harry Ahuja.

Joseph Finney and Riley Joe Jones will be defended by Rossano Scamardella and Ray Brown respectively.

Following his death, Mr Isaacs' family paid tribute to him in a statement, saying: “Wilfred was a loving family who lived for his family.

“He was always joking and was so much fun.

“He was a kind, loving family man and would always do anything to help people - not only family but friends alike.

“He will be remembered for being a true family man who never gave in for what he believes in.

“He was such a devoted husband to Pam and a doting father to Barry and Wilfie and his daughter-in-law Tabi.

“He was also a doting grandfather to his three grandchildren; Chanel, Emily and Arthur who could do no wrong in his eyes.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us through this traumatic time.

"In particular, we want to thank Barry, Loraine, Paige, Amee, Shane, Jane, Jamie , Richard and Sue.”
