SLIGHTLY more than £1,000 was raised last week for the County Gazette-backed charity Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE), which equips the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital.

Collection pots raised £13.25 at Trull Stores; £100 at Tesco Express, High Street, Taunton; £43.10 from Tesco Express, in Comeytrowe; and £88.70 from the collection pot at Tesco Express, East Reach.

Donations of 5p coins included £34.85 from Mr and Mrs Coombes, of Puriton; also from the Wellington Aqua Group is £73.50 in 5ps; £5 from Rene Davies; £35.10 from Rosemary's Hair Studio, North Petherton; and £308.57 including £225.30 in 5ps from the Beacon Centre.

There was £20 from Mrs R. May for the purchase of donated cotton spools and £60.35 from Lyn and Ken Devine, which is a share of donations in lieu of golden wedding anniversary presents.

And £20 came from the Ladies of the Church Guild, St Mary's Church, Woolavington, along with £15 from Mr and Mrs Walker from the sale of surplus Bramley apples.

Wellington Aqua Group donated £138 from two raffles on its outings, and Tony and Tessa Messam handed over £70 collected in lieu of presents for their golden wedding anniversary, The week's total is £1,025.72.
