A BURNHAM woman is fighting fit despite turning 105-years-old this week.

Knockout Katie Owen was joined by friends and family for a special birthday party at Broughton Lodge care home on Berrow Road in Burnham.

The team at Broughton Lodge helped organise a special boxing themed party to celebrate the amazing milestone.

They crowned Katie as the undisputed WCBF (World Centenarian Boxing Federation) 'sherryweight' champion and even set up a mock press conference where Katie vowed to 'float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, ram them with my trolley if they dare come near me'.

Katie credited her long 'career' to Somerset Social Services, and has a four wheel trolley which she refers to as her 'Rolls Royce'.

"I must thank my sponsors, Somerset Social Services who helped me train at home for years with their daily care visits, and then moved me to Broughton Lodge when my training needs increased..

A spokesman for Broughton Lodge said: "Katie is a true fighter. She is still in top shape, ready for all comers.

"Luckily Broughton Lodge is a place where you are never too old to act disgracefully."

Katie has been at Broughton Lodge for 18 months, after moving from Elizabeth Court.

Her son John, who lives in Burnham, as well her children and grandchildren attended the party on Friday, October 7.

Mandy Matthews, co-owner of Broughton Lodge, explained that Katie was one of the first to walk through the Mersey Tunnel before it was opened to traffic.

"She had a lovely time on Friday, and she really does look forward to receiving a card from the Queen."
