THE streets of Taunton will come alive with a euphony of smells, sights, sounds and tastes as the town gear's up for it's first ever food festival.

The highly anticipated event takes place on October 8 and 9 and will feature a whole mix of cookery demonstrations, a kids cookery club, food suppliers, and live music.

The festival takes place at the Brewhouse Theatre and has been organised by Somerset companies By Invitation Events and Click Your Heels.

Michelle Beck from By Invitation Events said: "When we first started discussing a food festival, it became very clear that we wanted to offer a truly interactive experience for all the family to enjoy.

"We wanted to showcase all the best produce that the South West has to offer in an easily accessible location.

"We realised that Taunton was ideally placed and that The Brewhouse was the perfect venue.

"Inside the theatre there is Cotleigh Bar serving fantastic local Real Ale, Porter Dodson Food Hall and Gallery where visitors will have the chance to buy from a whole range of producers and experience many types of demonstrations and Richard John's Signature Kitchens Chef's Demo Stage where SW Regional Chef Winner Steve Ashworth will be hosting some of the best local chefs who will be creating fantastic dishes for you to try.

Chefs include Olivier Certain from Clavelshay Barn, Richard Guest from Augustus, Liam Finnegan -from The Castle Hotel and Ashley and Georgie from Tristans Bistro.

"In the Brewhouse zone directly outside the Theatre and in Somerset Square will be many more local producers and food to go stands.

We have lots in store for children too, including the award-winning Fun Kitchen, which will be hosting cookery classes for children enabling them to create food in a safe and exciting learning environment and Go Create will be organising children’s activities including painting with vegetables and lots more.

"Creating the festival vibe will be various musicians. We hope that you enjoy all that The Brew Food Festival has to offer."

The festival will be split into portions: outside the theatre and also utilising Somerset Square there will be a Street Food Zone where you can munch your way around the world such is the variety of the food-to-go on offer.

The Cookery Theatre in the auditorium is where SW Chef of the Year 2013 Steve Ashworth will host live cookery demonstrations.

Afterwards there will be tasting sessions followed by a Q & A where Chefs will answer any culinary dilemma.

The Food Market both inside and outside The Brewhouse is where visitors can not only sample South West produce such as gin, wine, cheese, chocolate, meat, breads, vegetables, pies, sauces and pickles but watch individual stall holders hosting their own mini demonstrations including Hamhill Cider who are providing an apple press for the day.

Other entertainment comes in the form of George Egg: Anarchist Cook who will be performing his cocktail of stand-up comedy, striking innovation and extreme multi-tasking in the main theatre auditorium on Saturday October 9 at 7.30pm.
