BRIDGWATER Arts Centre is pulling out all the stops to celebrate its 70th Birthday with a programme of exciting special events this October.

The first performance at the Arts Centre, was an evening of Opera classics and on Saturday, October 15, A Night at the Opera promises the very same.

Visitors will be welcomed to a 1946 Arts Centre with a glass of fizz and the perfect soundtrack from a gramophone.

Ticketholders are encouraged to dress in the fashion of the time and wander in the transformed environment where they will meet a company of walkabout actors.

Renowned Garsington Opera will perform classics from Eugene Onegin, Figaro and La Boheme, a rare and special evening of live performance, don’t miss the chance to see world class performers in the intimate theatre.

The celebrations really kick in with Shifting Times, over the weekend October 7-9, a specially commissioned storytelling piece performed by Beth Webb and Chloë of the Midnight Storytellers.

You can discover over three floors of surprises, the Arts Centre’s punk past and Bridgwater's thriving community groups.

Monday, October 10 sees the official re-opening of the centre and a multi platform visual arts exhibition, showing 70 years of BAC memories in the newly refurbished Gallery.

The Arts Centre opens its doors for a half term family day of music, workshops, activities, art, stalls and other surprises on October 22. And of course there will be birthday cake.

And finally on Saturday, November 12, 700 years of Bridgwater History will be presented by seven local historians using photos, film, music and short talks on what has made our town special throughout the centuries.

A spokesman for Bridgwater Arts Centre said: "This is a real treat from one of the country's oldest arts centres, there is something for everyone to join in and celebrate our 70th birthday."
