TAUNTON artist Simon Beck treated visitors to Brean Beach last weekend with a giant artwork on the sand.

The artist spent over seven hours meticulously engraving the Ring of Anhur design into the sand wowing visitors of all ages.

The work was part of a national, modern day treasure hunt where readers were invited to delve into The Ring of Anhur novel to find the answers to a series of 12 puzzles and go around the country with a chance of winning a grand prize.

The book's author, John Michael Hudson, set up the quest to raise money for three charities , The Royal British Legion, the Fuschea Group and Round Table for Children's Wish, a charity that helps wishes come true for children with life threatening illnesses.

25 pence from each book sale will go to charity and there are 12 more questions to answer.

The winner will get a cash prize as well as a 24 carat gold plated, bronze ring.

So far over £200 has been raised for the cause.

Simon is well known around Somerset as well as around the world for his art. He has previously done works in the snow, most notably a promotional piece he created for popular television series, Game of Thrones, the creation of which took 13 hours.
