Designs to upgrade Gloucester Road play area in Hamp have been unveiled.

The new £25,000 play area, funded by Sedgemoor District Council, will include a castle-themed large adventurous multi-play unit which includes a banister slide, ladders, climbing net and rope bridge.

There will also be an inclusive large trampoline, inclusive basket swing, 2 flat swings, overhead spinner and stand-on twisting giro all set into rubber-bonded mulch surfacing.

Works will also see the re-painting of floor graphics in the toddler area which feature a snakes hopping game and mini road which includes a virtual roundabout and zebra crossing to enable children learning to ride bikes and scooters practise in a safe environment.

The park upgrade will also include provision of new bins, benches, picnic tables and fencing. These items are being funded by Homes in Sedgemoor.

The junior play area will be closed for the duration of the works, which are expected to commence in October 2016 and take around three weeks - subject to weather conditions. The toddler facilities and basketball area will remain accessible.

Hamp ward Cllr Adrian Moore said: "To have the opportunity to enhance such a busy area for the benefit of the young people in our community it is great news.

"Working with all parties has meant that we will have what families have been crying out for, we have worked hard to ensure local people have a voice in how this park looks."

Leigh Redman, vice chair of the Hamp Community Association (HCA) added: "The HCA work to try and help our community.

"This park has been neglected for to long, the play equipment in this area will mean young children can play safely.'

"The HCA meet on the first Wednesday of each month at Meads Court meeting room, and local people are welcome to come and contribute.

"We hope to build the group and welcome any thoughts or ideas, we also can be found on Facebook or email Jon White, our secretary at jon.hcasec@hampcommassoc.co.uk."
