TWO EPIC adventurers from Crewkerne have climbed up the three highest peaks in the UK in just three days in an effort to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Crewkerne District Rotary president Caroline Dredge and past president Sarah Holley were part of a group that climbed up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon while raising money for School in a Bag.

Mrs Holley said: “It was a fantastic five days, with a lot of laughs and a few tears but well worth it. More than £4,000 has been raised so far and sponsorship money is still coming in.”

School in a Bag is a charity based near Yeovil which provides school equipment for children living in some of the poorest parts of the world.

The two women joined the group at the School in a Bag headquarters on August 4, before a long minivan drive up to Ben Nevis.

They completed the Scottish ascent on August 5, before travelling down to Scafell Pike for the next day, and then they completed the challenge on August 6 with a climb up Wales’ Mount Snowdon.

Mrs Holley added: “It was quite tough but it was good fun. The first day was seven hours, then the second day was six hours and then the third day was seven hours again. We were very very lucky with the weather. It was just a bit cloudy.

“We got some great views but not so much on Snowdon because it was a bit more cloudy.

“Me and Caroline did a joint Virgin Giving page which alone has £2,200. It is way beyond what we expected initially. We organised an evening with Thai food and a chef and we raised £600.

“Once we got that we thought that was brilliant. Crewkerne Rotary agreed to put £500 towards the charity.

“Huge thanks to Luke, the founder of the charity. He was very supportive and Zoe who works at School in a Bag was very supportive as well.

“We signed on just after Christmas last year and we have been training on and off since then. We have had a lot of support from friends at Chard Road Runners.

“We got some great views but not so much on Snowdon because it was a bit more cloudy. The last bit was a bit hairy. Overall it was fantastic.”
