FOR those people, like me, who were unfamiliar with the experience of NHS treatment, they should know that all is very well at Musgrove Park Hospital.

I was diagnosed with pneumonia by my doctor, and she arranged a bed for me in the respiratory ward at Musgrove.

During the 10 days I was there the most notable feature was the kindness of the nursing staff by day and night, especially when I was feeling vulnerable.

I also observed that this same kindness and respect was shown to every patient, whether they were reluctant to accept treatment or not.

Some of the nurses were at Plymouth University studying for a nursing degree doing practical work on this ward who were living in Devon and Somerset, so it is good to see that local people are pursuing a career in their own locality.

I would like to add that the choice and standard of food was really good, something I could not have said about the food during my previous week at that hospital about 15 years ago.

I am very proud of my country’s health service.
