STEVE Riddiford got sore feet raising £762.53 for Taunton-based charity Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE).

He collected the money in sponsorship running the Great Bristol 10k run in support of the County Gazette-backed SURE, which buys equipment for the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital.

The appeal was boosted by hundreds of 5p coins - £18.60 from the New Horizon Singers; £40 from Somerset Deaf Plus Lip Reading classes; £3.25 from Connie Morley; £35 from Joanne McNulty, friends and family; and £21 from Mrs H. May of Minehead.

There was also £18.46 from the collection pot at Rosie's Larder, Wellington; £54.90 from Debenhams, Bedford House, Taunton, from commission from the Book People; and £13.07 in loose change from Hazel Hughes, of Taunton.

Collection pots totalled £10.63 at Trull Stores; £49.65 at Taunton County Market, Bath Place, Taunton; £24.41 from Sainsburys, Billet St, Taunton; and £21.56 from the fish and chip shop, in Norton Fitzwarren.

There was also £99.85, including £94.85 in 5ps from Minster Pharmacy, Ilminster, while there was an anonymous donation of £100 left at the Beacon Centre, along with a collection of £181.67, of which £164.15 was in 5ps.

The week's total for this week is £1,455.08 which takes the amount raised since SURE linked up with the Gazette to £621,248.82.
