A MOTORCYCLIST who became trapped underneath a car following a crash near Porlock is still in hospital with 'life-threatening injuries'.

The crash happened shortly after 1pm on Sunday afternoon on the A39 road near Porlock and resulted in three casualties, one with serious injuries and two suffering from shock.

Speaking on Wednesday morning, a spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "The man who was airlifted to hospital remains in life-threatening condition in Southmead Hospital.

"We are appealing for witnesses. If you saw anything please call us on 101 and quote incident log 607 for Sunday, July 24."

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 1.10pm to a road traffic collision involving a car and a motorcycle where a person had become trapped underneath the car.

"We sent three appliances, two from Minehead and one from Porlock and we assisted the paramedics in treating the motorcyclist and the other two casualties who were given oxygen therapy to help as they were suffering from shock."

Great Western Air Ambulance attended, and the motorcyclist was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

A spokesman for Great Western Air Ambulance said: "Our critical care doctor and paramedic travelled to the scene in one of our critical care cars.

"We assisted in giving blood to the patient. We have been carrying blood since August, and our team are trained to give pre-hospital transfusions to those who desperately need it."

Police were also in attendance and the road was closed for nearly six hours while the incident was cleared.

There was also a second crash, also on the A39 between Minehead and Porlock on Sunday afternoon in which a car ended up backwards in a hedge at the roadside. Fortunately no-one was injured in this second crash.
