THERE is just one day to go until you can have a go on Minehead's new summer star attraction.

The 33 metre high Observation Wheel, which will be based on the seafront for 6-8 weeks, will be open to the public tomorrow from 10am-8pm.

Tickets will cost £5 for an adult, £4 for children and senior citizens and £15 for a family ticket.

The Observation Wheel will be run by a commercial operator and has been brought to the town as a joint venture between the Minehead Events Group and Butlins.

The Butlins Group and holiday company were aware of the disappointment – and gap left in the summer calendar – that the legendary Red Arrows would not be making an appearance in August.

However the Events Group only found out the wheel was available at very short notice, leaving little time to consult with residents and town council - which has left a sour taste with residents in the seafront flats who were only given notice after construction had started.

Karen Mills, who also sits on the Events Group and is Lead Member for Economic Regeneration and Tourism for West Somerset Council said: “The Minehead Events Group has been working hard to secure this sort of amazing attraction for Minehead.

“I am sure that it will draw visitors from far and wide to support the Minehead and local economy, it will be an additional reason to visit this fantastic part of West Somerset.”
